I am an Associate Professor and Director at the UBC School of Information.
I previously studied at the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto (PhD Information Studies), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Master of Library Studies), and Carleton University (MA History). I teach courses on information retrieval, information and data services and management.
My research is primarily focused on the human-centred aspects of information retrieval and the ways in which people interact with and make sense of digital information. My current research focuses on climate crisis sensemaking and generative AI search systems. I have served as a principal investigator on SSHRC, NSERC and other locally funded research projects, and actively publish in the areas of interactive information retrieval, human information interaction, and open data. My publication record is available from my Google Scholar page. Many of my publications appeared under my former surname, Freund.
